DIY Window Clings

More fun decorations you can make with your kids

Make your own custom designed window clings!  This project is suitable for older kids. We made hearts for Valentine’s Day but you could make them in any shape you like. You are only limited by your imagination!

You will need:

  • Waxed paper or parchment paper
  • Dimensional fabric paint
  • Printed shape template; Here are some to try: heart, shamrock, egg, snowflakes

OR make your own template using:

  • paper
  • shape to trace
  • pencil
  • marker

To make your own template, trace your shape on the paper with pencil, then draw over it with a marker.  Or use one of the printed templates above.  If you’re brave, you could draw your design freehand.

Place a piece of wax or parchment paper over your design and trace over it with the dimensional fabric paint.

Now decorate your shape however you like.  Just be sure that all your lines are connected.

Let your designs dry overnight.

After the paint has completely dried, carefully remove your design from the wax/parchment paper.

Stick it to a window where everyone will see it!

You can reuse the clings if you store them in a plastic bag separated by sheets of wax/parchment paper.

I’m excited to use the egg template to make window decorations for Easter.  Cute, festive, easy, creative and cheap!  That’s a great kid’s craft in my book.

If you try this, send me a photo.  I’d love to see what you create!
